Field Day 2010

June 26-27, 2010:

 

With 6 stations on the air.  80 meters, KC5CMX; 40 meters, K4OCF & W1KI; 20 meters, KJ4DAE & KJ4AMH; 15 meters, K4CCJ & K4LSB; 10 meters, WB4CND, WD4DBK and KM4HI and PSK-31 20/15 by KJ4VBD & W3HII.

The 40 meter operation was highlighted by using a new antenna, designed by K4OCF & W1KI, it consisted of a three element wire beam @ 30 feet, aimed to the N.W.

This was a 6A entry from North Florida.  Our total score, including bonus points was 4,234.  This exceeded last year’s total (when we were an 11A entry).

Bar-B-Que was prepared by Trustee, Bill Britt, KQ4UJ.  Wayne, W1KI, being an ex-Navy cook furnished sauerkraut and kielbasa; Conrad, WB4CND, furnished a late evening snack of shrimp and Tony, K4OCF, supplied sausage for Sunday morning’s breakfast.

The South Marion Citizen carried a lead story on the front page, above the fold, in its Friday, June 25, 2010 edition promoting the event. 

Covering the event for local media were Shane Finch, Operations Manager, WTRS radio; The Belleview Newspaper as well as the Ocala Star Banner. 

We were also pleased to have Captain Chip Wildy, Marion County Emergency Management Director visit our operation. 

Also attending was Jeff Beals, WA4AW, ARRL Assistant Director, Southeastern Division, along with his xyl.

With temperature in the high 90’s and a heat index of over 100 degrees a good time was enjoyed by all members and guests attending the event.
